Papers Please - Proving Your Identity in the 18th Century (2007)

Gerry Barker is a retired teacher and soldier. As a living historian and
re-enactor, Mr. Barker has spent years researching 17th & 18th century life. His knowledge of indentured servitude and other topics has earned him the respect of other living historians and re-enactors.

We think of early America as a place of freedom and individual rights, but to the contrary, it was a society leery of strangers. In this program, Gerry demonstrates and talks about the identifying papers one had to carry in Colonial times to avoid being arrested as a criminal or
runaway indentured servant.

A wonderful resource for home school studies.
Recommended for ages 13+.
